Infectious Laryngotracheitis 015
There was a severe outbreak of ILT on this broiler farm. The video shows sampling of the so-called ‘chicken express’ vehicles used for transporting broilers to the slaughterhouse. These vehicles had been inadequately cleaned. Swab samples were taken the following day after use, which was a public holiday, and by that time the vehicle surfaces had dried. The swabs were mixed with water and subsequently used to make imprints on an FTA® card. PCR testing of the card later yielded a positive result for ILT. This case illustrates that, although ILTV is relatively sensitive to environmental conditions, it can remain infective under dry conditions for at least one day.
