Drinking Water 002

Twenty‑nine‑day‑old broilers drink from a nipple‑drinker system that has been adjusted to the correct height.

Maintaining the nipple drinkers at the appropriate level is as important as setting feeder pans correctly. Broilers must be able to drink comfortably without spilling water, wetting the litter, or stretching their neck and breast. Incorrect drinker height alters the birds’ posture and increases water wastage, which in turn elevates disease risk and reduces flock performance.

Broilers should drink with the beak held slightly upwards, allowing water to flow naturally into the oesophagus. When drinkers are positioned too low, birds must bend their necks downwards, reducing water intake and increasing spillage. Conversely, when drinkers are set too high, birds overstretch their necks, causing discomfort and lowering drinking frequency.

Correct drinker height supports natural biomechanics, ensures adequate water consumption, and helps maintain dry litter conditions.
