Avian metapneumovirus causes a respiratory disease in broilers. It is associated with swollen head syndrome (SHS) and upper‑respiratory disease, and occurs in many broiler‑producing countries. Although turkeys are more susceptible, aMPV remains an economically important pathogen in broiler production. For further details, see the chapter “Avian Pneumovirus” in the book.
